Eliminate Standing Water (Your #1 Priority)
Clean and flush gutters. Clogged gutters holding debris and water are one of the most significant mosquito breeding sites on residential properties. Flush them completely.
Overturn or store containers. Buckets, wheelbarrows, planters, recycling bins, and anything else that can collect water should be turned upside down or stored under cover.
Change birdbath water weekly. Birdbaths are delightful for birds — and for mosquitoes. Change the water at least twice per week to prevent larvae from developing.
Check for low spots in your lawn. Areas that collect water after rain and don't drain within 48 hours are potential breeding sites. Address grading issues or treat these areas with biological larvicide (mosquito dunks containing Bti).
Address decorative ponds and water features. Add a pump to keep water moving (mosquitoes need still water to breed) or add Bti dunks. Running fountains and aerators are highly effective.
Reduce Mosquito Habitat
Trim back dense shrubs. Adult mosquitoes rest in the cool, humid shade of dense vegetation during daylight hours. Keeping shrubs trimmed reduces their daytime hiding capacity.
Mow regularly. Tall grass holds moisture and shade. Short, well-maintained turf is less hospitable to resting mosquitoes.
Clear leaf litter. Accumulated leaves in beds, corners, and along fences hold moisture and provide harborage for both mosquitoes and ticks.
Manage ornamental grasses. Dense ornamental grasses are excellent mosquito hiding spots. Keep them trimmed and thinned where possible.
Get Professional Treatment
Book your first organic barrier treatment for April. Professional treatment by a trained technician addresses every harborage zone on your property — the dense shrubs, the fence lines, the ground cover, the shaded areas — creating a barrier that dramatically reduces the active population before it can establish.
